NEWS RELEASE October 24, 2011 Lake Providence Fire Investigation An early morning fire at a Lake Providence business office is being investigated by the Louisiana State Police, the Lake Providence Police Department and investigators from the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal. Just before 5:00 am this morning, firefighters responded to a fire at 308 First Street in Lake Providence. Investigators from the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Lake Providence Police Department and the Louisiana State Police were requested to investigate the fire. While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, the fire is being considered suspicious in nature. The fire caused extensive damage to the interior of the building. There were no injuries or fatalities reported and the building was not occupied at the time responders arrived on the scene. The location of the fire was the former campaign office of the East Carroll Parish sheriff-elect, Wydette Williams. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal, Butch Browning Jr., stated “we will use every appropriate resource to investigate this incident and determine the cause of this fire.” Anyone with information regarding the fire should contact the Lake Providence Police Department at (318)559-2000.
