TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE February 28, 2012 Man Dies after Being Ejected from Vehicle A Downsville man has died after being ejected from his vehicle in a Union Parish crash. Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash last night at about 9:30 pm on LA 15 near mile post 158. The investigation revealed that a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling south on LA 15 when it began to pass a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee in a no passing zone and a curve. The driver of the 1998 Jeep then lost control of his vehicle in the curve and ran off the road to the right. That driver then over-corrected back to the left, then back to the right, where the vehicle came to rest partially in the southbound lane of travel. During the crash, the driver of the 1998 Jeep and his passenger were ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the 1996 Jeep still traveling south on LA 15 and was unable to avoid hitting the 1998 Jeep and the ejected driver of that vehicle. After impact, the 1996 Jeep ran off the road to the left. The driver of that vehicle then over corrected back to the right where the vehicle over-turned on its left side. The driver of the 1998 Jeep, identified as 29-year-old Dennis Lowery Jr of Downsville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner's Office. The ejected passenger was taken to LSU-Shreveport with serious injuries. The passenger has not been identified at this time. The driver of the 1996 Jeep, identified as 52-year-old Susan Cox from Downsville, received minor injuries in the crash. Impairment is unknown and routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash is still under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, the proper wearing of a seat belt is the best way to reduce injuries and fatalities in car crashes. This is the first fatal crash investigated by Troop F Troopers in 2012.
