      State Police Investigate Separate Homicides

Louisiana State Police Detectives and Crime Lab Unit investigated two unrelated homicides within hours of each other yesterday in East Carroll and Tensas Parishes.

The first homicide occurred in Tensas Parish and is a joint investigation between Louisiana State Police and the Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office. Twenty-two (22) year old Colby Joe Fortenberry of Winnsboro, Louisiana, was discovered murdered at the “Hwy 4 Bar” in Newellton where he was employed as a bartender. There is no suspect information at this time. Anyone having information regarding this murder is asked to contact the Tensas Parish Sheriff’s Office at (318) 766-3961.

The second homicide occurred in East Carroll Parish and is a joint investigation between Louisiana State Police and the East Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office. At approximately 3:30 pm yesterday, 40 year old Tallulah resident William D. Kirk Jr. was murdered at a Sondheimer residence. Tanya Kirk (36 years old of Newellton) and William Kirk Jr. were married, but physically separated. Yesterday, Tanya Kirk and her boyfriend, Robert W. Russell (26 years old of Newellton), traveled to a Henderson Loop Road residence in Sondheimer where they had conspired to murder the unsuspecting William Kirk Jr. The murder occurred in the back yard of the residence. William Kirk Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Tanya Kirk and Robert Russell were each arrested on one count of 2nd Degree Murder and booked into Riverbend Detention Center. The investigation is on-going.
