TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled

In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop F and the West Monroe and Monroe Police Departments will team up to conduct a sobriety checkpoint this weekend. On Friday, December 30, 2011, a sobriety checkpoint will be conducted in the West Monroe city limits from approximately 9:00 pm to 3:00 am.

Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or injured by impaired drivers. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool, serving as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving. The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired drivers. Contact the Louisiana State Police by dialing *LSP or (*577) on your cell phone or contact your local law enforcement agency to report impaired drivers and dangerous roadway conditions.

There are no excuses for impaired driving and those who choose to endanger themselves or others will be arrested.

· Before attending any celebration, plan a safe way home or make arrangements to stay there.
· Before drinking, designate a sober driver and give that person your keys. A designated driver should have NO alcohol.
· Do not drink unless you are 21 or older
· If you are impaired, call a taxi, sober friend or family member.
· Always buckle up-it is your best defense on the road
