NEWS RELEASE November 3, 2011 Teen Mother Arrested for Murder of Infant Child A sixteen-year-old Tallulah teen was arrested and booked for second degree murder of her infant child in Madison Parish. Louisiana State Police Detectives were called by the Madison Parish Sheriff's Office on July 26, 2011 to investigate the suspicious death of a 2 1/2 month old female child that occurred on July 22, 2011. As part of the investigation, the infant was sent to New Orleans for an autopsy. The New Orleans Forensic Center determined that the infant’s official cause of death was from pneumonia. The pneumonia was apparently caused by broken ribs, which did not allow the baby to take full breaths. The baby showed additional signs of abuse including a broken arm and leg. On October 28, 2011 the sixteen-year-old mother of the baby, identified as Amanda Lee (w/f) from Tallulah, was arrested by Louisiana State Police Detectives and booked in Madison Parish for second degree murder. On November 2, 2011, following a grand jury hearing in the Sixth Judicial District Court, it was decided that Lee will be tried as an adult. A second degree murder conviction carries a sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
