TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE November 15, 2011 Columbia Man Dies in Caldwell Parish Crash A Columbia man has died in a two-vehicle crash in Caldwell Parish. Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 126 in Caldwell Parish last night at about 7:16 pm. The investigation revealed that a 1996 Ford Ranger was traveling east on LA 126 when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve. The Ford Ranger crossed the center-line and struck a westbound 2010 Ford truck nearly head-on. The driver of the Ford Ranger, identified as Patrick M. Wilson (23 yoa from Columbia) was pronounced dead at the scene by the Caldwell Parish Coroner's Office. Wilson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford truck, identified as Curtis Sandidge (49 yoa from Grayson) was transported to St Francis Hospital with minor injuries. Two passengers in the truck, Cynthia Sandidge (49 yoa from Grayson) and a three-year-old female child, were also taken to St Francis Hospital with moderate injuries. The passengers were restrained at the time of the crash and the driver was not wearing his seat belt. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The proper wearing of a seat belt and the proper selection and use of a child restraint is the best way to reduce injuries and fatalities in car crashes. Every Louisiana State Police troop is recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as a child safety seat “Inspection Station”.
