TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE

December 2, 2011
Franklin Parish Fatal Crash

A Winnsboro woman has died in a two-vehicle crash in Franklin Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash this morning at about 10:35 am. The investigation revealed that a 2011 Toyota Camry was traveling south on LA 17, about 1 mile south of Crowville, and a 2008 Chevrolet truck pulling a utility trailer was traveling north in the same proximate location. For unknown reasons, the Toyota crossed the center line and side-swiped the back of the Chevrolet truck. The Toyota continued south in the northbound lane until it struck the utility trailer being pulled by the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 83-year-old Odean Laborde from Winnsboro, was transported to the Franklin Medical Center, but was pronounced dead a short time later. Seat belt use is unknown and impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The Franklin Parish Coroner's Office will determine the specific cause of death.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 44-year-old Darrell Hendry from Winnsboro, was not injured in the crash.

While not all crashes are survivable, the proper wearing of a seat belt is the best way to reduce injuries and fatalities in car crashes.

In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated forty-six (46) fatal crashes resulting in fifty-three (53) deaths.
