| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 23, 2018 Unrestrained Mississippi Woman Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in East Feliciana Parish East Feliciana Parish – Shortly after 2:00 pm on May 23, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 964 north of LA 68 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 46-year-old Connie Travis of Liberty, MS. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Travis was traveling southbound on LA 964 in a 2017 Honda Civic. For reasons still under investigation, Travis’ vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the roadway into a ditch. The vehicle struck an embankment and overturned multiple times. Travis was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from Travis for analysis. As we enter into our second week of the Click It or Ticket campaign, this crash is a painful reminder of the importance of buckling up. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. | |||
