News Release December 19, 2010 Double Fatal Crash in Madison Parish
A Monroe couple has died in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Madison Parish.
Troop F Troopers responded to the crash today, at approximately 11:50 am, after a motorist reported seeing the vehicle down a steep embankment. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 GMC Yukon was traveling east on Interstate 20, just east of Tallulah, when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the road and entered the median. The Yukon traveled for about 200 feet before vaulting over a shallow bayou and coming to rest on a steep ditch embankment between two median bridges.
The driver of the Yukon, identified as Bradford Burks (54 yoa from Monroe), and a passenger (his spouse), identified as Lena Burks (60 yoa from Monroe), were pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner's Office. Bradford Burks was not restrained at the time of the crash. Lena Burks was wearing her seat belt.
Troopers believe the crash actually occurred between 7:00 pm yesterday evening and sometime early this morning. The crash location was only barely visible from the roadway.
While impairment is not suspected to be a factor, routine toxicology tests are pending.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated forty (40) fatal crashes resulting in forty-three (43) deaths.
