News Release December 16, 2010 Early Morning Fatal Crash in Richland Parish
A Texas man died in an early morning crash on Interstate 20 in Richland Parish.
Troop F Troopers responded to the crash at about 4:19 am this morning. The investigation revealed that a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling west on Interstate 20 (milepost 130) when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder. The Freightliner then sideswiped a 1995 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, which was parked on the shoulder with a flat. The Freightliner continued off the north side of the road, struck a culvert, over-turned, and continued into the tree line before coming to rest.
The driver of the Freightliner, identified as Arliegh Myers (48 yoa from Dallas, TX), was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner's Office. Myers was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The operator of the parked 18-wheeler, identified as Bryant Joubert (35 yoa from Opelousas, LA), was not injured in the crash.
While impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, routine toxicology tests are pending.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-nine (39) fatal crashes resulting in forty-one (41) deaths.
