News Release February 13, 2011 Impairment Suspected in Deadly Madison Parish Crash
A Mer Rouge man has died in a one-vehicle crash in Madison Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash, near Mound on Hwy 80 in Madison Parish, at about 2:00 am this morning. The investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford truck was traveling west on Hwy 80 when it ran off the right side of the road and entered a ditch. The truck traveled in the ditch for approximately 250 feet before re-entering the roadway and then running off the left side of the road. The truck continued for approximately 100 feet before striking a tree and traveling another 50 feet before coming to rest in the eastbound ditch.
The driver, identified as 54-year-old Leonard E. McKnight from Mer Rouge, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner's Office. McKnight was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Impairment is suspected to be a factor and toxicology tests are pending.
In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated five (5) fatal crashes resulting in six (6) deaths.
