News Release November 9, 2010 Hostage Situation in Lake Providence
Louisiana State Police Detectives are investigating a hostage situation that occurred this morning in Lake Providence.
At about 9:30 am this morning, Louisiana State Troopers, including patrol, SWAT and detectives, responded to assist the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office with a hostage situation at the 911 Center in Lake Providence.
Deputies were able to establish a dialogue with the hostage taker, identified as 37-year-old Rodney A. Saurage, and the single hostage was ultimately released. After additional talks with Saurage he surrendered to police personnel at the scene.
Louisiana State Police Detectives are investigating the incident and have arrested Saurage. He will be booked at the East Carroll Parish Detention Center for aggravated kidnapping, attempted first degree murder, felony theft, aggravated burglary, simple escape, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The investigation is on-going at this time.
