News Release December 8, 2010 Monroe Man Charged in Fatal Crash
A Monroe man has been charged with vehicular homicide and other charges following a deadly crash in Ouachita Parish.
On December 7, 2010, at about 11:48 pm, Troop F Troopers responded to a two vehicle crash on LA 139 (milepost 5.4) in the Swartz area of Ouachita Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north on LA 139 entering a slight right hand curve. The Malibu crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 1996 Chevrolet Trailblazer in a head-on manner.
The driver of the Malibu, identified as 27-year-old Marquita Washington from Bastrop, was transported to St Francis Hospital in Monroe where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash. An occupant in the Malibu, identified as 23-year-old Andrea Payton from Mer Rouge, was taken to St Francis Hospital with moderate injuries. Both Washington and Payton were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Trailblazer initially fled the scene on foot following the crash. Troopers located him a short time later and he was subsequently arrested on numerous charges. That driver is identified as 34-year-old Doyle Myers from Monroe. Investigating troopers have reason to believe that Myers was impaired at the time of the crash. Myers was booked at the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center for the following charges: Vehicular Homicide, Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Failure to Report an Accident, No Seat Belt, Failure to Register a Vehicle, Expire Inspection Sticker, and Possession of Marijuana.
The crash remains under investigation.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-seven (37) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-nine (39) deaths.
