Holden Man Dies After Crashing ATV in Livingston Parish

Livingston Parish – At approximately 12:00 am on May 27, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a crash involving an ATV on LA 42 west of LA 43 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 28-year-old Brandon Swindle of Holden.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Swindle was operating an ATV in the travel lanes of LA 42. For reasons still under investigation, Swindle lost control of his ATV and was ejected onto the roadway. Swindle’s body was later struck by a 2016 Honda Accord driven by 58-year-old Gary Fontenot of Holden.

Swindle sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office. Fontenot was properly restrained and was not injured. Impairment is suspected on the part of Swindle, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
