News Release June 2, 2011 Juvenile Dies after Fleeing From Deputies in Lincoln Parish
A sixteen-year-old has died after he crashed while fleeing from a Lincoln Parish Deputy attempting to stop him for speeding.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers investigated the crash this morning at about 12:05 am. The investigation revealed that a Lincoln Parish Deputy was operating stationary radar on US 80, near Kirkland Rd, in Lincoln Parish when he observed a 2003 Honda Accord traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The deputy measured the Honda's speed at 79 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The deputy then attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, utilizing emergency lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop.
The deputy had followed the Honda for less than a mile when he observed the vehicle cross over the center-line into the westbound lane, then swerve back to the right. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and ran off the south side of the road into a ditch where it struck and broke a wooden utility pole. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and burst into flames.
The driver, identified as 16-year-old Brad Young from Arcadia, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner's Office.
Impairment is not suspected and the crash is still under investigation at this time.
In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated fifteen (15) fatal crashes resulting in sixteen (16) deaths.
