| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release February 17, 2011 10:15 am Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled for Saturday Night It is Mardis Gras time for the twin-cities and thousands of people will line the streets this weekend to watch the parade and stock-up and beads. The parade represents an important part of our heritage and can be a fun, family activity. Law enforcement officers in the area want citizens to have fun, but to also make responsible decisions, especially when it comes to choosing to drive impaired. To combat impaired driving, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers will team up with other law enforcement agencies to conduct a sobriety checkpoint this weekend. On Saturday, February 19, 2011, a sobriety checkpoint will be conducted in the West Monroe city limits from approximately 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. Checkpoints are designed to remove impaired drivers from the roads before they can injure themselves or others, but to also act as a deterrent to impaired driving. If people recognize the increased probability of checkpoints, they are less likely to drive impaired. Agencies participating in the checkpoints include: Union and Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Departments, West Monroe, Bastrop and Grambling City Police Departments, and the Louisiana State Police. There are no excuses for impaired driving and those who choose to endanger themselves or others will be arrested. · Before attending any celebration, plan a safe way home For More Information, Contact: Trooper First Class Mark Dennis Louisiana State Police Troop F Public Affairs Office: (318) 345-2810 | |||
