News Release April 5, 2011 Cyclist Dies in Crash with Car
A Ruston man has died in a bicycle crash with a car in Lincoln Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash today at about 2:10 pm. The investigation revealed that a 2006 Century Alpha bicycle was being ridden north on the right shoulder of LA 33 near the Union Parish line. The cyclist made a u-turn into the path of a northbound 2007 Nissan Altima. The driver of the car was unable to avoid hitting the bicycle and its rider. The impact occurred near the center-lines on the highway.
The cyclist, identified as 65-year-old Larry Yeagle from Ruston, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner's Office.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, identified as 19-year-old Shakira Gatson from Farmerville, was not injured in the crash.
Yeagle was wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment is not suspected in this crash.
In 2011, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated seven (7) fatal crashes resulting in eight (8) deaths.
