Troopers Encourage Safe Driving and Proper Restraint Use

As the Easter holiday and spring break approaches, Louisiana State Police Troop F wants to remind drivers the importance of safe driving and proper restraint use for all occupants of motor vehicles.

If you plan on traveling this holiday weekend, state police encourages you to drive safely and plan your trip accordingly. Monitor the weather conditions for the area you are traveling in. If you need to find out about road closures you may call 511 for information. As you drive to and from your destination, troopers encourage drivers to minimize their distractions in the vehicle. Louisiana Law prohibits drivers from writing, reading, or sending text based communication. It also prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from using a cell phone while driving.

Drivers are encouraged to check their vehicles fluid levels, tires, and other required vehicle equipment to make sure they can make it to their destination safely. While traveling, should your vehicle experience a problem requiring you to pull off the road, you may call *LSP (*577) and state police can help you find the appropriate assistance.

Louisiana State Law requires all occupants in a motor vehicle be properly restrained. Children must be in an age and weight appropriate child restraint. If you would like a trooper to check your child seat you can call your local troop office to schedule an appointment.

Troop F Troopers will be patrolling the roadways to ensure that everyone is driving with due care and offering assistance to motorists in need. Troopers will focus much of their attention on aggressive drivers, speeders, impaired drivers, and those who do not wear their seat belts or properly restrain children.

Remember: You talk, you text, you crash!
