TROOP F – NEWS RELEASE
April 16, 2013
Fatal Crash In Morehouse Parish

On April 15, 2013, at 10:58 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 830-4 east of U.S. Highway 165 that claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet truck, driven by 16-year-old Tori Johnson of Bastrop, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 830-4 when Johnson lost control of the Chevrolet while entering a curve and drove off the left side of the roadway. The Chevrolet then struck a tree.

Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. One passenger, 22-year-old Haley Tyson of Bastrop, was air lifted to a hospital in Shreveport with critical injuries. A second passenger, 18-year-old Stephen McKelvey of Bastrop, was taken to a hospital in Bastrop with minor injuries.

A routine toxicology sample was taken from Johnson and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves from injury in the event of a crash. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

Troop F has investigated 13 fatal crashes which have resulted in 15 deaths so far this year.
