Fatal Crash In Union Parish

On February 28, 2013, at 7:02 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 33 south of Louisiana Highway 348.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Toyota 4Runner, driven by 43-year-old William Gilbert of Marion, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 33 when it traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a culvert and traveled about 65 feet before coming to rest on the driver side.

Gilbert was wearing a seat belt. Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office. The 5-year-old passenger was properly restrained and uninjured.

Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The investigation is ongoing.

Troop F has investigated 10 fatal crashes which have resulted in 12 deaths so far this year.
