TROOP F NEWS RELEASE
May 20, 2013
Fatal Crash in Ouachita Parish

On May 20, 2013, at 7:09 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 15 south of Louisiana Highway 841.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze driven by 39-year-old Jamie Woods of Monroe was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 15 when it traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Woods was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Woods suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger, 23-year-old Joseph Young of Arlington, Texas, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital in Monroe.

Alcohol use is suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver and never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel.

Today starts the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click it or Ticket” national seat belt enforcement campaign. Seat belts are the most effective safety feature ever invented and have helped save thousands of lives. Sadly, one in five Americans fail to regularly wear a seat belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle. “Click it or Ticket” will last until June 2.
