Unrestrained Baton Rouge Man Dies in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash

Baton Rouge – Shortly after 3:00 am on June 9, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 westbound west of LA 42 in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 45 year old Patrick Joseph of Baton Rouge.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Joseph was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2002 GMC Sierra. At the same time, 40 year old Brandon Harris was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2007 Freightliner. For reasons still under investigation, Joseph struck the trailer of Harris’ vehicle.

Joseph was unrestrained and sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Harris was properly restrained and was not injured. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample was taken from both drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
