TROOP F NEWS RELEASE
May 30, 2013
Fatal Crash in Tensas Parish

On May 30, 2013, at 9:55 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 605 south of Louisiana Highway 604.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Nissan truck, driven by 90-year-old Willie Douglas of Newellton, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 605 when it struck the trailer of a 1995 International 18-wheeler, driven by 57-year-old Ronald Dellinger of Ferriday, that was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 605. The International was transporting a house and was being escorted by a fully marked State Police unit using visual and audible devices. The house was a DOTD permitted load. The Trooper was blocking southbound traffic and attempted to stop the Nissan. The Nissan left the road and traveled on the grassy shoulder to go around the Trooper’s position before striking the International’s trailer.

Douglas suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tensas Parish Coroner’s Office. Dellinger was properly restrained and did not report any injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop F has investigated 15 fatal crashes which have resulted in 17 deaths so far this year.
