Mississippi Man Killed in Madison Parish

On January 18, 2013, at 4:50 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 20 about 15 miles east of Tallulah, which claimed the life of a Mississippi man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 GMC Envoy, driven by 84-year-old Glenn Fleming of Brandon, Mississippi, was traveling west on Interstate 20 in the right lane when a 2013 Freightliner Conventional 18-wheeler, driven by 22-year-old Crystal Holliday of Sumter, South Carolina, traveled into the path of the Envoy by entering the right lane from the shoulder. The Envoy struck the rear of the Freightliner.

Fleming was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner’s Office. Holliday did not report any injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seat belt.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained will be submitted for analysis. Holliday was cited with moving parked vehicles. The crash remains under investigation.

Inattentive and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state. Motorists should always pay attention to other traffic and drive with care. More information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov.

Troop F has investigated 2 fatal crashes which have resulted in 2 deaths so far this year.
