Edmonson, Superintendent News Release March 15, 2012 Ouachita Parish Business Operators Arrested on Insurance Fraud Charges Investigators with the Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud Unit arrested two individuals who submitted fraudulent insurance claims in Ouachita Parish. According to investigators, 52 year old Winnsboro resident Stephen Sanderson and 46 year old Monroe resident Sherry Williams operated a windshield repair and replacement business in Ouachita Parish. The investigation began when Louisiana Farm Bureau Insurance discovered over 80 fraudulent claims submitted to them from Mr. Sanders and Ms. Williams between the years of 2006 and 2010. State Farm Insurance also discovered fraudulent claims submitted to them in 2010. The business repaired rock pecks on a customer’s windshield and billed the insurance company for a glass replacement. In cases where a windshield was replaced, they billed the insurance companies for more expensive glass items and other services that were not performed. On March 9, 2012 Sherry Williams was arrested and charged with twenty-four (24) counts of Insurance Fraud. She was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center and bond was set at $1500 per count for a total of $36,000. On March 15, 2012, Stephen Sanderson was arrested and charged with twenty-four (24) counts of Insurance Fraud. He was booked into Ouachita Correctional Center and bond was set at $1500 per count for a total of $36,000. Insurance fraud is a crime that costs Louisiana citizens alone over 2.3 billion dollars a year, through higher taxes, increased insurance premiums, and higher costs of goods and services.
