TROOP F NEWS RELEASE JULY 12, 2013 Unrestrained Driver Injured In Morehouse Parish On July 12, 2013, at 12:54 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle serious injury crash on Cooper Lake Road north of Louisiana Highway 2 that injured a Bastrop man. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Bastrop Police Department was attempting to stop a 2002 Buick Century on U.S. Highway 165 for a traffic violation. The Buick did not stop and continued east on U.S. Highway 165 at a high rate of speed. The Buick then turned north on Cooper Lake Road. The driver, 27-year-old Patrick Deville of Bastrop, lost control of the Buick as it drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree. The Buick then rolled over several times. Deville was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected. Deville suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a hospital in Shreveport. The two male passengers both suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor. A toxicology sample was obtained from Deville and will be submitted for analysis. Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves from injury in the event of a crash. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants in all seating positions to be properly restrained, day and night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
