TROOP F NEWS RELEASE
June 5, 2013
Fatal Crash in Morehouse Parish

On June 5, 2013, at 3:39 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 165 south of Bastrop that claimed the life of a South Carolina man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge Charger, driven by 20-year-old Fredin Sanchez of Greenville, SC, was traveling south on U.S. 165 when it lost control and started to spin in a clockwise direction. The Charger entered the northbound side of U.S. 165 and was struck by a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by 60-year-old Carolyn Morrison of Bastrop.

Sanchez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by The Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. The only passenger in the Charger, 23-year-old Geyner Ramirez of Greenville, SC, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Shreveport. Morrison suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital in Monroe. The two passengers in the Hyundai, 61-year-old Shelia Rallinson of Bastrop and 61-year-old Bonnie Gilley of Bastrop, suffered moderate injuries and were transported to a hospital in Monroe.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a dangerous situation. Troopers encourage motorists to reduce their speed even more in hazardous weather. Rain and other adverse weather conditions make it harder to negotiate curves and other situations.

Troop F has investigated 18 fatal crashes which have resulted in 20 deaths so far this year.
