TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 17, 2013 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Franklin Parish On June 16, 2013, at 8:12 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 618 west of U.S. Highway 425. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by 25-year-old Memory Roberts of Wisner, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 618 when it drove off the right side of the road and then back onto the road. The Oldsmobile then drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Roberts was not wearing her seatbelt. Roberts suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner’s office. Alcohol use is suspected. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel, and always wear a seatbelt. Troop F has investigated 22 fatal crashes which have resulted in 24 deaths so far this year.
