TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 6, 2013 Fatal Crash in Jackson Parish On June 6, 2013, at 5:10 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 34 east of Louisiana Highway 4 that claimed the life of a Winnfield man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Kenworth 18-wheeler, driven by 58-year-old Carl Bustin of Winnfield, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 34 when it struck a tree that had fallen across the road. The Kenworth then traveled across the east lane and into a ditch. Bustin suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner’s Office. Bustin was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop F has investigated 19 fatal crashes which have resulted in 21 deaths so far this year.
