TROOP F NEWS RELEASE
June 11, 2013
Unrestrained Driver Killed in West Carroll Parish

On June 10, 2013, at 6:28 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on Round Hill Road west of Louisiana Highway 2 that claimed the life of an Oak Grove man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet C15, driven by 34-year-old Walter Neal of Oak Grove, was traveling east on Round Hill Road when it was struck in the rear by a 1995 GMC truck, driven by 24-year-old Henry Griffin of Oak Grove. The GMC was traveling east directly behind the Chevrolet on Round Hill Road prior to the crash. The GMC and the Chevrolet both ran off the right side of the road and overturned.

Griffin was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Griffin suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Carroll Parish Coroner’s Office. Neal was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Neal was transported to a hospital in Oak Grove with minor injuries.

Alcohol use is unknown on the part of Griffin. Alcohol use is not suspected on the part of Neal. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Seat belts are the most effective safety feature ever invented and have helped save thousands of lives. Sadly, one in five Americans fail to regularly wear a seat belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle.

Troop F has investigated 20 fatal crashes which have resulted in 22 deaths so far this year.
