TROOP F NEWS RELEASE June 11, 2013 Fatal Crash in Richland Parish On June 11, 2013, at 11:20 a.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Highway 80 west of Louisiana Highway 133 North. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 59-year-old Shirley Kennedy of Oak Ridge, was traveling east on U.S. Highway 80 when it crossed the center line, partially entered the west travel lane and struck the trailer of a 1999 Freightliner Conventional, driven by 56-year-old Daniel Wilson of Monroe, that was traveling west on U.S. Highway 80. The Freightliner was hauling a properly marked oversized farm implement. The Nissan traveled off the right side of the road and overturned. The Freightliner came to a controlled stop on U.S. Highway 80. Kennedy was wearing her seat belt. Kennedy suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner’s office. Wilson was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Inattentive and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state. Distracted driving is unsafe, irresponsible and in a split second its consequences can be devastating.
