Around 2:45 this afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to a two vehicle crash involving a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 1997 GMC pickup truck in Madison Parish. The investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling east on LA Hwy 3202 when the westbound pickup truck attempted to make a left turn directly into a private drive but struck the motorcycle. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected during the collision. The motorcycle rider, identified as 52-year-old Billy W. Thompson from Tallulah, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Madison Parish Coroner's Office. While Mr. Thompson was wearing a helmet it was separated from him during the collision. The driver of the GMC, identified as 45-year-old Darryl Sandidge from Tallulah, was not injured in the crash and was cited with Careless Operation. While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop F has investigated eight fatal crashes which have resulted in eleven deaths so far this year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has declared May as Motorcycle Awareness Month. All motorists are reminded to safely “share the road” with motorcycles and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe.
