TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE June 10, 2012 Jonesboro Man Killed in ATV Crash Louisiana State Police Troop F troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on June 9, 2012, at about 7:56 p.m. in Jackson Parish. The investigation revealed that an ATV was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 542 when the driver attempted to turn left onto Cynthia Street. The driver lost control of the ATV, traveled into a ditch and struck a tree. The driver was ejected upon impact. The ATV driver, identified as 29-year-old Latherrio Austin from Jonesboro, was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Austin was not wearing a helmet. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Austin and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. The Louisiana State Police would like to encourage everyone that rides an ATV to always wear the proper safety equipment, travel at safe speeds and only ride on designated trails. It is dangerous and illegal to operate off road vehicles (i.e. three wheelers, four wheelers, and other all terrain vehicles) on any public roadways in this state.
