Unrestrained Driver Killed in Morehouse Parish Crash

Today Louisiana State Police investigated a single-vehicle crash in Morehouse Parish that left an Arkansas man dead.

Around 12:16 pm this afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troopers investigated a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 142 milepost 2.6 in Morehouse Parish. The crash occurred when an eastbound 2001 BMW Z3, driven by 45 year-old Jeffery Carr of Crossett, Arkansas, was attempting to exit a left-hand curve and ran off the roadway to the right. After the driver overcorrected to the left, the vehicle entered the north ditch, struck the ditch embankment and continued to travel within the ditch until the driver’s door area struck a large tree. The unrestrained driver was completely ejected in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office.

While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology tests are pending.

Troop F has investigated seven fatal crashes which have resulted in ten deaths so far this year. The primary purpose of the seatbelt is to prevent ejection and while not all crashes are survivable, chances of survival are increased and severity of injuries can be decreased by the proper usage of a seat belt or age/weight appropriate child restraint.
