TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE July 26, 2012 Fatal motorcycle crash in Lincoln Parish On July 26, 2012, at 11:35 a.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3005 south of US Highway 80 that claimed the life of a Ruston man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 41-year-old David R Hackney of Ruston, Louisiana was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 3005 when it left the roadway and struck a culvert. Hackney was wearing a DOT approved helmet and was ejected from the vehicle. Hackney suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s office. A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a dangerous situation. Troopers encourage motorists to observe the speed limit and to drive in a safe and prudent manner.
