| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release March 25, 2012 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Lincoln Parish Crash Louisiana State Police investigated a single vehicle crash in Lincoln Parish that left one man dead and another in serious condition. At approximately 1:45 this morning, troopers investigated a single vehicle crash on US Hwy 167 south, just north of Jackson Parish. A 1999 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, driven by 32 year-old Earnest G. Chatman of Jonesboro, traveled off the left edge of the roadway, rotated clockwise, struck a portion of the bridge rail, went airborne, rolled onto its roof and came to rest on the roadway in an upright position. Both the driver and passenger, 24 year old Jermane Washington of Nacogdoches, Texas, were ejected during the crash because neither was wearing a seat belt. Mr. Chatman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s Office and Mr. Washington was airlifted to LSU Hospital in Shreveport with life-threatening injuries. Impairment is suspected to be a major contributing factor in this crash and routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop F has investigated three fatal crashes which have resulted in three deaths so far this year. All three fatal crash victims were ejected from their vehicles. While not all crashes are survivable, chances of survival are increased and severity of injuries can be decreased by the proper usage of a seat belt or age/weight appropriate child restraint. In 2010, 43% of all fatal crashes in Louisiana involved alcohol usage. If you drink, don’t drive. Contact Information: Lt.
