| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release April 11, 2012 Impairment Suspected in Union Parish Fatal Crash A single vehicle crash in Union Parish left one man dead and another hospitalized early this morning. At four minutes after midnight this morning, Louisiana State Police investigated a crash on LA Hwy 33 near milepost 14.4 after a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche ran off the right side of the road. After it left the roadway, the passenger side impacted a large tree. The driver, identified as 22 year old Charvis Buggs of Farmerville, was transported to Union General Hospital with moderate injuries. The passenger, 19 year old Kenneth Goodjoint of Farmerville, was extricated from the vehicle. He was initially transported to Northeast Medical Center with serious injuries, but was transferred to LSU-Shreveport where he later succumbed to those injuries. Seatbelt usage by the driver and passenger are unknown, but impairment is suspected. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Charvis Buggs, who was hospitalized, was cited for Driving while Intoxicated, Careless Operation and No Proof of Insurance. Troop F has investigated four fatal crashes which have resulted in four deaths so far this year. While not all crashes are survivable, chances of survival are increased and severity of injuries can be decreased by the proper usage of a seat belt or age/weight appropriate child restraint. In 2010, 43% of all fatal crashes in Louisiana involved alcohol usage. If you drink, don’t drive. Contact Information: Lt.
