Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled in Ouachita Parish

Louisiana State Police - Troop F Troopers have investigated numerous fatality and injury crashes this year as a result of impaired drivers. To combat this problem the Louisiana State Police, Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, West Monroe Police Department and ULM Police Department will team up to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, April 20th, 2012 from 9:00 pm – 2:30 am, weather permitting, in Ouachita Parish.

LSP Troopers will work in conjunction with partner agencies at the sobriety checkpoint to aggressively enforce and deter alcohol-related offenses.
Every year on Louisiana roadways, thousands of people are killed or seriously injured because of impaired drivers. The consequences of drinking and driving can be costly no matter how many drinks consumed. In 2011, 44% of fatal crashes in Louisiana involved alcohol. Sobriety checkpoints are effective enforcement tools because they serve as a deterrent to impaired driving. The task of stopping impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. By never allowing an impaired driver to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and reporting dangerous drivers to law enforcement, the public can play an important role in the reduction of crashes caused by impaired drivers. Making poor decisions in a vehicle such as driving impaired, driving while distracted and/or not wearing a seat belt leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. To report dangerous drivers or hazardous roadway conditions, call *LSP (*577) from your cell phone.
