| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release May 1, 2012 Three Killed in Union Parish Crash A two-vehicle crash in Union Parish left one woman and two children dead while a fourth passenger is in critical condition. At approximately 1:55 pm this afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 33 near milepost 26 after a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier attempted to enter LA Hwy 33 south from a private drive. The vehicle, driven by 34 year-old Jamie Hamilton of Downsville, drove into the path of a northbound 1988 Mack dump truck. The resultant collision killed the driver of the Chevrolet and two juvenile passengers: 8 year-old Choloe Hamilton and 5 year-old Lillie Hamilton. A fourth passenger, 33 year-old Jay Hamilton of Downsville, was airlifted to LSU-Shreveport with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Mack dump truck, 22 year-old Jorgan J. Ward of Farmerville, was transported to Lincoln General Hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers and all passengers were utilizing seat belts. No citations were issued. While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop F has investigated six fatal crashes which have resulted in nine deaths so far this year. While not all crashes are survivable, chances of survival are increased and severity of injuries can be decreased by the proper usage of a seat belt or age/weight appropriate child restraint.
