| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE July 14, 2018 Jackson Woman Dies in Head-on Crash in East Feliciana Parish East Feliciana Parish – Shortly after 11:00 am on July 14, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash on LA 19 north of LA 963 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash resulted in the death of 55-year-old Matilda Matthews of Jackson. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Matthews was traveling northbound on LA 19 in a 2000 Dodge Caravan. At the same time, 64-year-old Larry Arms of Ponchatoula was traveling southbound on LA 19 in a 1998 Peterbilt. For reasons still under investigation, Matthews crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided head-on with Arms’ vehicle. Matthews was properly restrained but sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner’s Office. Arms was properly restrained and was not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from both drivers for analysis.
