TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE

August 4, 2012
Fatal crash in Tensas Parish

On August 4, 2012, shortly after 1:30 a.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 575 south of Louisiana Highway 898, which claimed the life of a Newellton man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Toyota Tercel, driven by 52-year-old Edward L. Brooks of Newellton, Louisiana, was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 575 when it exited the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned.

Brooks was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle. Brooks suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tensas Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Making poor decisions in a vehicle, such as driving while impaired, driving while distracted or reckless driving, leads to serious injuries and deaths across the state each year. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Troopers remind motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol, never get into a vehicle with an impaired driver, never allow an impaired person to get behind the wheel, and always wear a seatbelt.
