TROOP F - NEWS RELEASE August 15, 2012 Fatal crash in Ouachita Parish On August 15, 2012, shortly after 12:30 a.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 20 at the Camp Road exit that claimed the life of a West Monroe man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Harley-Davidson driven by 36-year-old Christopher S. Biddle of West Monroe, Louisiana entered Interstate 20 from the Camp Road exit traveling west in the wrong direction when it was struck head-on by a 1998 Kenworth Conventional 18-wheeler driven by 52-year-old Marquita Wolverton of Ashland, Ohio that was traveling east on Interstate 20 in the right lane. Biddle was ejected from the motorcycle. Biddle suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Biddle was wearing a DOT approved helmet. Wolverton did not report any injuries from the crash. Alcohol on the part of Biddle is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind drivers that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Motorists should never get behind the wheel if they are impaired and should either stay where they are or call someone who is sober to pick them up. Motorcycle awareness license plates are available through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. Please visit their website at www.expresslane.org for more information. Funds generated from the purchase of the plates will be used by the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign to increase awareness and promote/support training and education efforts for motorcyclists. | |||
