NEWS RELEASE- Troop F November 23, 2012 Fatal Crash in Richland Parish On November 22, 2012, at 10:00 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 133 north of Interstate 20 that claimed the life of an Oak Ridge woman. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Toyota Camry, driven by 24-year-old Susan Griffioen of Mobile, Alabama, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 133 when the Camry ran off the roadway to the right. The Camry then traveled back onto the roadway and across both lanes of travel where it overturned, partially ejecting the front passenger, 23-year-old Amanda Bebout of Oak Ridge. Bebout suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner’s Office. Griffioen was properly restrained and did not report any injuries. Impairment is suspected. Griffioen was arrested and booked into Richland Parish Detention Center for vehicular homicide and DWI. The crash remains under investigation. The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seatbelts and/or impaired drivers. State Law requires seatbelts to be used at every seating position in the vehicle. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times and that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Motorists should never get behind the wheel if they are impaired and should either stay where they are or call someone who is sober to pick them up. Troop F has investigated 24 fatal crashes which have resulted in 26 deaths so far this year. | |||
