Fatal Crash in Union Parish

On December 8, 2012, at 2:45 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 143 south of Louisiana Highway 2 that claimed the life of a West Monroe man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by 38-year-old Joshua Richardson, was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 143 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2002 International Conventional 18-wheeler, driven by 22-year-old Jakelton Joiner of Marion, head on.

Richardson suffered serious injuries and was transported to Glenwood Regional Medical Center where he died. Joiner was wearing his seat belt and did not report any injuries.

Alcohol use is not suspected. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While the exact cause of this crash has not yet been determined, inattentive and distracted driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. More information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov.

Troop F has investigated 29 fatal crashes which have resulted in 32 deaths so far this year.
