TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
May 10, 2018
Two Dead after Head-on Crash in Livingston Parish

Port Vincent – Shortly after 7:00 am on May 10, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 447 north of LA 16 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 29 year old Harlan Hill of Denham Springs and 40 year old Mark Stephens of Zachary.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Hill was traveling northbound on LA 447 in a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado. At the same time, 58 year old Earl Ray of Denham Springs was traveling southbound on LA 447 in a 2007 Dodge Ram. For reasons still under investigation, Hill crossed the center line and struck Ray’s vehicle head-on in the southbound lane of LA 447.

Hill was properly restrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Stephens was not restrained and sustained fatal injuries. Ray was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. Impairment is suspected on the part of Hill. A toxicology sample was taken from both drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
