NEWS RELEASE- Troop F September 28, 2012 Teenager Dies in West Carroll Parish Crash On September 28, 2012, shortly before 3:30 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 582 at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 2, which claimed the life of an Oak Grove teenager. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, driven by a 16-year-old was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 582 when it traveled through the intersection at La 2 and was struck by an eastbound 18-wheeler driven by 52-year-old Allen Broussard of Maurice, Louisiana. The 16-year-old driver of the Pontiac Sunfire was properly restrained and transported to St Francis Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The sole passenger in the Sunfire, 13-year-old Hunter Hughes of Oak Grove, was restrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the West Carroll Parish Coroner’s Office. Broussard was properly restrained and did not report any injuries. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that inattentiveness can impair one’s ability to drive. Some studies have shown that inattentiveness can affect driving as much as alcohol impairment. Drivers are encouraged to limit distractions when they drive and always remember to exercise caution when crossing intersections. Troop F has investigated 20 fatal crashes which have resulted in 22 deaths so far this year.
