NEWS RELEASE- Troop F October 14, 2012 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Union Parish On October 13, 2012, shortly before 8:30 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle crash on Alabama Landing Road east of Louisiana Highway 143, which claimed the life of a man from Marion, Louisiana. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Dodge truck driven by a 50-year-old Ronnie Baker of Marion was traveling north on Alabama Landing Road when for unknown reasons he traveled off the roadway. The Dodge then struck two trees, rolled over twice and caught fire. Baker was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Union Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is unknown. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seatbelts. State Law requires seatbelts to be used at every seating position in the vehicle. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times. Troop F has investigated 22 fatal crashed which have resulted in 24 deaths so far this year.
