News Release October 16, 2010 Woman Killed in Ouachita Parish Crash
A Monroe woman has died in a two-vehicle crash in eastern Ouachita Parish.
Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers responded to the crash on LA Hwy 139 (milepost 2.8) yesterday at about 5:10 pm. The crash investigation revealed that a 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling south on LA 139 in the right lane when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the road onto the shoulder. The driver then over-corrected back to the left causing the vehicle to slide sideways across the highway. The Mustang slid across both southbound lanes and the center-line of the highway before entering the path of a northbound 2004 GMC Envoy. The front of the Envoy then impacted the right side of the Mustang before both vehicles came to rest.
The driver of the Envoy, identified as Suzanne Hatcher (44 yoa from Monroe), was transported to the St Francis Hospital in Monroe, but died a short time later from injuries she sustained in the crash. A 16-year-old passenger in the Envoy was transported to Glenwood Hospital with minor injuries. Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Mustang, identified as James R. Collins, Jr (27 yoa from Monroe), was transported to Glenwood Hospital with moderate injuries. His seat belt use is unknown.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against James Collins, Jr. Impairment is unknown and toxicology tests are pending.
In 2010, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers have investigated thirty-four (34) fatal crashes resulting in thirty-six (36) deaths.
