News Release November 8, 2008 Troopers Make Drug Arrest Following Traffic Stop
On November 8, 2008 at about 9:11 am, Louisiana State Police Troop F Troopers arrested a North Carolina man after discovering a large quantity of drugs and cash in the car he was driving. The incident began on the eastbound side of Interstate 20 near milepost 125 in Ouachita Parish when troopers stopped a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as 38 year old Andres Reyes from Charlotte, NC, troopers said he appeared to be very nervous and he was giving inconsistent statements. Troopers subsequently obtained consent to search the car where they found nearly twenty-eight pounds of powder cocaine. The cocaine was bundled into nine packages and was found concealed in false compartments in the left and right rear rocker panels of the car. The cocaine "kilos" had been packaged with axle grease covering the outside of the bundles in an apparent attempt to mask the odor from drug detecting dogs. Troopers also located and seized $15,976.00 in U.S. currency.
Reyes was arrested and booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center for Improper Lane Use and Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute (over 400 grams).
The estimated street value of the cocaine is nearly one million dollars.
