| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE February 5, 2016 Baton Rouge Man Arrested for Vehicular Homicide after Passenger Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Baton Rouge, LA – Shortly after 3:00 am on February 5, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 30 west of LA 327 Spur in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 32 year old Christopher Holeman of Baton Rouge, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 33 year old Sean Hopkins was traveling westbound on LA 30 in a 2009 Dodge Caravan. Hopkins was traveling at a high rate of speed when his vehicle veered off the roadway. Hopkins’ vehicle struck a guardrail and came to rest in the tree line. Hopkins was not restrained at the time of the crash and suffered serious injuries. He was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for treatment. Holeman, a passenger in the vehicle with Hopkins, was also unrestrained. Holeman suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash. Hopkins has been arrested for Vehicular Homicide, Reckless Operation, and Driving Under Suspension. A toxicology sample was taken from Hopkins and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Upon his release from the hospital, Hopkins will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
